DBKL bears losses of more than RM600,000 due to damaged landscape

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had to bear a loss worth RM620,000 due to damaged ornamental plants along Jalan Raja, Jalan Raja Laut and Jalan Tun Perak during the National Day parade last Wednesday (August 31).

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah said DBKL was working to clean up the affected area and replace the plants, which consisted of 24 different species, that were destroyed that day.

“The percentage of people coming out to celebrate National Day on August 31 is unusually high, and many landscaped areas near Dataran Merdeka have been damaged.

“DBKL is identifying if any of the plants can be saved,” he told reporters at DBKL’s media appreciation night at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Friday.

On Wednesday, several photos and videos showing people stepping on the plant went viral on social media.

In a post on the FB page, DBKL praised the patriotism of the people who came to witness the National Day parade.

“However, there are also those who are oblivious to the surrounding conditions and do not care about the beauty of their surroundings and damage the landscape,” he said.
