TIME TO KNOW THE COMEDY MOVIE “LA LUNA”!
Clover Films (Singapore), Papahan Films (Singapore) and ACT 2 Pictures (Malaysia) today announced the completion of production for the comedy film LA LUNA after 22 days of filming.
The Singapore-Malaysia production led by director from Singapore, M. Raihan Halim (Banting), was introduced at the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF) and was awarded the Wouter Barendrecht Award and also the White Light Post Production Award.
Director M. Raihan Halim said, “LA LUNA is a story that has been playing in my mind for almost a decade. It has the same theme as my first film, ‘Banting’, in showcasing Malay Muslim stories with unexpected storylines. The story of a lingerie store that can change a society was funny at first…but then it became an attraction for me. I’m incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to work with such great talent in the region, and I can’t wait to introduce LA LUNA to the world.”
LA LUNA features a great cast including Sharifah Amani (Sepet), Shaheizy Sam (Police Evo), Wan Hanafi Su (Apprentice), Namron (Crossroads: One Two Jaga), Hisyam Hamid (Revenge of the Pontianak), Nadiya Nisaa (Bu ), Farah Ahmad (Frontliner) and Iedil Dzuhrie (The Assistant), along with young actors Syumaila Salihin (Flying Butter) and Wafiy Ilhan (Warkah).
With an expenditure allocation of S$1.1 million (RM3.5 million), LA LUNA is located in a small Muslim village, Kampong Bras Basah, which was surprised by the arrival of a women’s lingerie store, La Luna. While the villagers slowly began to accept the presence of the shop, the Village Head still wanted La Luna to be closed by any means!
“The overall theme of “change” in this film made a big impression on me. In the modern world as it is now, changes to traditional habits will definitely happen, to keep up with the changing times. We trust the director of the film, Raihan, to develop his vision and hope that the audience, in addition to being entertained by the performance of this comedy film, can also catch the message that is trying to be conveyed.” said Lim Teck, Managing Director of Clover Films and Executive Producer of the film.
“Gender equality is a noble goal. This film tells the story of the strength of a group of women and how they become independent in a conservative village atmosphere. I love the way Raihan elaborates this story, bringing to life the purpose and development of the characters. LA LUNA is a presentation from Clover Films and Astro Shaw; in collaboration with Papahan Films and ACT 2 Pictures; supported by the Singapore Film Commission, the Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) and the Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (FINAS). The film will be released in the third quarter of 2023 in Singapore and Malaysia.
