Community awareness has shown good results when in the last epid week of 2022, the state of Melaka recorded only 251 cases.
MELAKA: The Melaka government has decided not to make it mandatory to wear face masks in public and closed places at this time following monitoring carried out over the past two weeks showing a trend of decreasing cases of COVID-19 in the state.
State Health and Anti-Drug Exco Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the results of the survey also showed a high level of awareness among the community who took the initiative to wear face masks in crowded and closed places to prevent the spread of the virus.
“Alhamdulillah, as a result of community awareness, good results have been shown when in the last week of the epidemic of 2022, the state recorded only 251 cases.
“The trend of COVID-19 infection in Melaka continued to decrease to 217 cases in the first week of this year after the state government’s announcement encouraging the use of face masks before and cases continued to decrease to 180 cases last week,” he told reporters in Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh. here today.
Commenting further, Akmal said that even though the trend of cases shows a decrease, the state government still encourages citizens and tourists in Melaka to maintain the use of face masks, maintain a safe distance and use disinfectant liquid or wash their hands frequently.
He said the high awareness and sensitivity to the preventive measures also showed that all parties were able to jointly curb the spread of COVID-19, besides also encouraging the people in the state to take the first and second booster doses.
“Taking this booster dose is one of the ways to increase antibodies and the public can visit 32 health clinics and three hospitals in all districts in the state that house Vaccination Centers (PPV) directly for the first and second booster doses,” he said.
Melaka previously planned to re-enforce the use of face masks in closed places and public areas if the spread of COVID-19 cases showed a sudden increase within two weeks.
