Chef Wan lambasts digital outlets for misreporting his mother’s passing

His 91-year-old mother remains in critical condition and is currently receiving palliative care

Two years ago, Chef Wan disclosed that his mother, Noraini Abdullah, has been diagnosed with cancer and is also suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

MALAYSIA’S celebrity chef Datuk Redzuawan Ismail, or more endearingly known as Chef Wan, took to his social media accounts to clarify that his 91-year-old mother, Noraini Abdullah, has not yet passed as falsely reported in several digital news outlets.

The confusion began when he described the funeral arrangements his family had decided on, opting to do it in Cyberjaya instead of his hometown Sungai Koyan, Pahang.

Netizens misunderstood it and quickly took to leaving messages of condolences, which spiralled into online digital outlets publishing articles on his mother’s passing.

In a series of Instagram posts, he called out the publications commenting, “do they read and get their facts right or do they not understand English?”

He clarified in a following post, “Sorry about all this Rotikaya, Selebriti that announced my mom death which is false. I have many fans from all over the world, so I need to write in my simple English pun.”

He added, “As for the confusion about the funeral arrangement I wrote it’s better for me to make advance arrangement so that everything will run smoothly and quickly when the time comes.”

Two years ago, Chef Wan disclosed that his mother has been diagnosed with cancer and is also suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. At present, Noraini remains in critical condition.

Despite her condition initially stabilising upon being hospitalised last week, Chef Wan revealed that the pain has started to set in after five days of just liquid food.

“Mom is struggling, and she is really a tough lady not giving in. I can see that. She started to develop her pain finally and was very restless last night. So, they have now started her palliative care management which will put her to sleep not to feel this excruciating pain.”
