adminSEOUL: South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung on Tuesday urged authorities to step up security ahead of K-pop group BTS’ comeback concert in downtown Seoul this weekend, to ensure the event goes ahead safely, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Lee stressed the importance of security as BTS is scheduled to hold a free comeback concert at Gwanghwamun Square on Saturday, and police estimate there will be about 260,000 people in the surrounding area that day.
“The BTS concert, which has attracted global attention, is only a few days away,” Lee said at a Cabinet meeting held in the administrative city of Sejong.
“The main issue is safety, and I ask that every effort be made to create comprehensive safety measures.”
Lee urged the Ministry of Home Affairs and Security, the police, fire authorities and other relevant agencies to maintain heightened vigilance and prepare thoroughly for all possible situations.
“Preparations also need to be made for the possibility of violence, even though the likelihood is not high,” he said.
Lee also called for a reassessment of the security situation at accommodation facilities across the city to ensure the success of the event.
