adminKUALA LUMPUR: A total of 5,544 traffic police personnel will be assigned throughout the implementation of Op Selamat 26 in conjunction with Aidilfitri from March 19 to 24.
Director of the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said that this time’s operation carries the theme ‘Share the Journey, Share Comfort, Safety First’.
According to him, the assignment of personnel was made based on a detailed analysis of high-risk areas identified earlier.
“We have previously conducted studies and analyses to identify ‘ hotspots ‘ and ‘ blackspots ‘.
” We look at these blackspots based on past accident statistics, and from there we make a plan for the deployment of personnel so that their presence is omnipresent in the area.”
“In addition, based on information from PLUS, we expect 2.3 million vehicles to use the highway during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period,” he added.
He said this when met at the Launching Ceremony of Op Selamat 26 in the capital on Tuesday.
Elaborating further, he explained that ‘ hotspots ‘ refer to areas with traffic congestion, while ‘ blackspots ‘ involve locations where accidents often occur.
“Based on the analysis made, we are conducting preliminary research to ensure that members and officers can be strategically placed throughout the festive period,” he explained.
He added that 34 locations were identified as hotspots along the main highway, while another 25 were categorized as blackspots .
