Tax fraud, Spanish prosecutors ask for Shakira to be jailed for more than 8 years
ANKARA: Spanish prosecutors will today ask the court to impose a prison sentence of more than eight years on sensational artist Shakira for tax fraud, Anadolu Agency reported.
The application was made after Shakira on Wednesday rejected a plea deal because she believed she was innocent.
Shakira is accused of defrauding the Spanish tax office of EUR14.5 million (US$14.7 million) worth of income earned between 2012 and 2014.
Prosecutors will also ask the court to impose a fine of almost EUR24 million (US$24.5 million) on the singer who is popular with the song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”.
