Singer R Kelly was jailed for 30 years
NEW YORK: R&B singer R Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison following a conviction in connection with sexual abuse of children and women.
Kelly, or real name Robert Sylvester Kelly, was previously accused of using his celebrity status, to lure women into victims.
The singer, who is popular with the song ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, was convicted last September for sexual smuggling.
Kelly’s lawyer informed the singer will file an appeal.
In a previous trial, dozens of women appeared to testify against Kelly’s actions
.
Some victims were promised a chance to become famous.
The court was also told Kelly obtained false documents to marry singer Aaliyah, when she was 15, in 1994, six years before her death.
Kelly was among the prominent individuals convicted of sexual crimes, during the #metoo movement.
