TAWAU, Aug 20 (Bernama) — The Sabah Immigration Department has repatriated 4,750 illegal immigrants of various nationalities to their respective countries so far this year.
In a statement today, the Sabah Immigration Department said Filipinos accounted for the highest number at 3,008, followed by Indonesians (1,478), Pakistanis (118), Chinese (109), Vietnamese (18) and 19 others of various nationalities.
“The figure also includes the latest transfer programme involving 144 Indonesian nationals (today) who were transported via the route using a commercial ferry,” it said.
The statement said all the Indonesian detainees, aged between three and 68, comprised 107 adult men, 26 adult women, four boys and seven girls, with the children accompanied by their parents or respective escorts.
All of them, from the Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Sandakan Immigration Detention Depots, were transferred after completing their sentences under the relevant legal provisions and obtaining valid Travel Documents in Lieu of Passport (SPLP).
“The Immigration Department of Malaysia urges all parties to be more vigilant about their surroundings in the community, refrain from colluding to protect or employ illegal immigrants and immediately report any activities involving illegal immigrants through official channels,” it said.
The Sabah Immigration Department urged the public to channel any information or complaints regarding illegal immigrant activities through the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) portal or the Online Enquiry System (SPO).
