adminKUALA LUMPUR: The production of Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical (PGL The Musical) plans to tour throughout Malaysia after its performance in Kuala Lumpur.
According to the General Manager of Production and Live Events of PGL The Musical, Bob Azrai Kamaruddin, the production team has established relationships with several states to realize the plan.
He said that the selection of two actors to portray the role of Gusti Puteri in different performances was also part of the preparations to bring the production to more locations.
“The purpose of why we need to have these two princesses is because we at Infinity with Puan Seri Tiara felt that this time we would go even further with Puteri Gunung Ledang.
“We will be touring throughout Malaysia, God willing. We will go to every state and already have relationships with several states that will allow us to hold performances,” he said on the AWANI Pagi program on Thursday.
Bob Azrai explained that both actors will play the role of Gusti Puteri in different performances or on different days.
This approach can ensure a smooth touring schedule if one of them is tied up with other commitments.
Meanwhile, Bob Azrai said that the main challenge of this production is to maintain the original identity of PGL The Musical, while offering innovations that can attract the younger generation.
According to him, the legacy of the work in question cannot be frozen, but rather needs to continue to be developed without eliminating important elements in its storytelling.
“If we want to continue that legacy, we can’t freeze it. We need to continue and expand that legacy.”
“The storytelling needs to be maintained, including elements of love, loyalty and sacrifice so that the audience takes something home from this performance,” he said.
The revival of PGL The Musical features a new cast, including Aisha Retno as Gusti Puteri, with Puan Seri Tiara Jacquelina acting as director.
The performance is scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 15 at the Jeffrey Cheah Performing Arts Centre, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
