‘Five days notice, no explanation’ – Wong Chen claims he was removed from MDV after attending Bersama event

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Subang Member of Parliament, Wong Chen, claims he faced several actions that he described as politically motivated after attending a Parti Bersama event last May.

In an interview on the Consider This program with Melisa Idris which aired on Thursday, Wong Chen said he was ordered to leave his position as Chairman of Malaysia Debt Ventures (MDV) with just five days’ notice without an official explanation.

According to him, this happened when MDV was performing better than before he was appointed.

“They didn’t contact me, didn’t meet me. They just sent a note through the company secretary informing me that I had to resign within five days,” he said.

Wong Chen claimed that the action occurred after he attended the Bersama program as an observer and friend of the party’s founder.

He also defended his record of administration at MDV, stating that the company was successfully restored from losses to profits during his tenure.

“The company was making losses before I became chairman and we managed to turn it around. I don’t take full credit, but I ensured good governance was implemented,” he said.

In addition, Wong Chen also claimed that his office lost access to the Subang Parliament community fund management system without any notice or explanation.

According to him, the matter was only realized after his officers failed to access the system to process community projects and assistance to residents.

“We tried to get an explanation but to this day no answer has been given,” he said.

He claimed that the Subang Parliamentary community funds, which amount to around RM3.5 million a year, are used transparently and that expenditure records are published regularly for public viewing.

He said that most of the funds had been distributed to schools and community projects before access was blocked, but there were several projects that had not yet been processed.

Wong Chen claimed that the action affected residents and educational institutions in the Subang area.

When asked who was responsible for the decision, he referred to instructions allegedly coming from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).

At the same time, he described the treatment he received as disappointing after 17 years with PKR and his role in formulating various party policies including the alternative budget.

Wong Chen previously announced his resignation as Subang Member of Parliament and left PKR before joining Parti Bersama.
