Melaka PRN: Saifuddin Nasution to meet Ab Rauf to discuss cooperation

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has not ruled out the possibility of meeting Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh to discuss cooperation in the State Election (PRN).

The PKR Vice President, who is currently performing the duties of the party’s Deputy President, said the discussion was likely to take place after Ab Rauf returned home from a working visit to New Zealand.

“When I go to Melaka, I have to stop by her house and eat Mak Leha’s asam pedas with her. So we are always in touch.”

“In that regard, we discussed various matters. Since Melaka is close to the elections, it is possible that we will open up the topic,” he said after the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) and the Malaysian Multimedia Commission (MCMC) here today.

On August 8, Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition was still open to negotiations regarding the distribution of seats for the Melaka state election, including the change of constituencies, as long as it was done honestly and sincerely.

He said the basic principle of the negotiations stipulated that seats won by any party must be respected and not simply handed over to political partners.

Following the announcement, PH Communications Director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the openness should be welcomed for the future and political stability of Melaka, as well as its importance to the country.
