PN will challenge the annulment, requesting a stay until the court’s decision this Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will challenge the validity of the order to cancel the coalition’s registration by the Registration of Societies (RoS) and request that its implementation be postponed pending the court’s decision this Thursday.

Its Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, said the coalition would take all appropriate action through legal channels to challenge the decision.

He also urged the Attorney General to provide an explanation regarding the action, particularly his department’s stance in court during the hearing of the PN’s adjournment application on October 22.

“The cancellation of PN, a blatant abuse of power by a frightened government. Today, 20 October 2026, the RoS has cancelled the registration of PN just two days before the Kuala Lumpur High Court is scheduled to hear PN’s application to stay the registrar’s action to issue a non-compliance notice and suspend all PN activities.

“The decision to act before the hearing raises serious questions about the purpose of this use of power and the government’s respect for the judicial process in court.”

“PN will challenge the validity of the cancellation order and request that its implementation and effects be postponed pending the court’s determination,” he said in a press conference at the Parliament building on Tuesday.

RoS today announced the cancellation of PN’s registration after finding that the explanations and documents submitted by the coalition failed to refute the grounds for cancellation as stated in the previous notice.

Takiyuddin said the application, which will be heard this Thursday, is also related to the interests of voters ahead of the Melaka State Election (PRN) on November 14.

He claimed that the action had the potential to affect the choices of voters who wanted to support PN, but left the matter to the court to determine.

“We also defend the rights of the people of Melaka who want PN. That is another aspect that PN emphasizes, not only caring about the interests of Perikatan Nasional, but also the interests of the people, especially the people of Melaka,” he added.

Commenting on the relevant legal provisions, he said Section 18 of the Societies Act 1966 allows parties who are aggrieved by the decision of the Registrar of Societies to submit an appeal to the Minister of Home Affairs within 30 days from the date of the decision.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin stressed that PN component parties remain united to defend the rights and mandate of the people through legal channels and the democratic process.
