LPF scrutinizes the film ‘Flying Butter’ before taking action – KDN
KUALA LUMPUR: The Film Censorship Board (LPF) is thoroughly examining all aspects related to the movie ‘Flying Butter’ before taking further action.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) in a statement today informed that the LPF is aware of the issues arising in relation to the film which has received the attention of the general public after public comments about the film went viral on social media.
According to the KDN, based on a review, the film in question is not in the LPF’s censorship record and was screened online (via the Internet platform).
“Therefore, the screening or streaming of the film ‘Flying Butter’ is beyond the jurisdiction of the LPF.
“LPF, however, is always sensitive and committed to ensuring that negative elements, including elements that are contrary to belief in films can be prevented from being aired, exhibited, disseminated, screened or distributed conventionally to the general public in Malaysia,” according to the statement.
Following that, the film does not have LPF approval for public screening and members of the public who find that the film is shown conventionally can file a complaint with the Film Censorship Office, KDN or the KDN Public Complaint Management System.
The film Mentega Terbang, which was broadcast for free on a digital streaming platform, was protested by Muslims in the country because it allegedly contained elements of religious pluralism that could affect the faith.
Today, the Malaysian Artists Association made a police report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters regarding the film which allegedly insulted Islam and openly contained inflammatory content in several scenes of the film.
