SEGAMAT: Barisan Nasional’s (BN) statement that it will not form a coalition government with any other party if it manages to retain power in the Johor State Election (PRN) is considered another arrogant and premature statement.
The leader of the Youth Justice Party (AMK), Kamil Munim, described the current political landscape as constantly changing and any decision regarding the formation of a government can only be determined after the people make their choice on polling day.
“This to me is another arrogant statement. In the past, they have issued various statements such as ‘No Anwar’ and ‘No Bersatu’.”
“But today’s political dynamics have evolved. Today we are campaigning and the people will make the decisions. Ultimately, leaders need to make decisions to ensure that administrative affairs at the state level can run smoothly,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters during a tour of the Youth Justice Force on Sunday.
“To me, statements like this are premature. The people can judge for themselves the attitude of the current leaders and make a good assessment,” he added.
Meanwhile, he also urged all the contesting parties to focus on the offers and policies they bring to the people rather than playing up issues that are considered trivial to gain support.
“Don’t use these petty issues as a way to gain support or sympathy. Instead, show what we offer, what our policies are and what economic approach we want to bring,” he said.
Last Wednesday, Johor BN announced its stance that it would not form a coalition government with any other political party if it managed to retain power after the state election.
Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stressed that the coalition’s stance remains firm despite facing criticism and pressure since announcing on May 16 that Johor BN would contest all 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in this election.
He said the coalition faced various attacks and accusations following its decision not to cooperate with certain political parties.
He also stressed that BN’s stance not to cooperate with DAP should not be interpreted as a rejection of any race because the coalition remains committed to representing the multi-racial community in Johor.
Onn Hafiz said that if the people continue to give the mandate to BN, the coalition will govern Johor on its own without forming any collaboration or alliance with other political parties in the state.
