JOHOR BAHRU: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has opened three investigation papers related to acts of treason and attempted treason that have a seditious tendency in the 16th Johor State Election (PRN) so far.
Johor Police Chief Datuk AB Rahaman Arsad said two of the investigation papers were opened under Section 435 of the Penal Code for mischief with fire or explosives, and Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
He said another investigation paper has been opened under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for committing or attempting to commit acts that have a tendency to incite and improper use of network facilities or services.
“Overall, since nomination day last Saturday until yesterday, we have received seven police reports related to the Johor state election.
“Johor Police continue to enhance security control and monitoring in all election districts to ensure that every process runs smoothly, orderly and safely. To date, no incidents that could affect public order have been reported,” he said in a statement today.
Ab Rahaman said the security situation throughout the Johor state election was peaceful and under control with 3,903 personnel, including 544 officers, 3,247 members and 112 civil servants, deployed to maintain order.
He said all political activities and campaigns so far have taken place in harmony as a result of continuous monitoring and control by the police.
“We are also intensifying monitoring on social media platforms and working closely with relevant agencies to address the spread of fake news, unverified information, as well as content containing incitement or provocation that could affect public order,” he said.
He called on all parties to continue to respect the law and practice political maturity, including not engaging in any provocations, not spreading fake news or unverified information.
Regarding traffic flow, Ab Rahaman said traffic conditions at all election-related locations were reported to be smooth and under control.
The Johor state election will be held on July 11, while early voting will be on July 7.
