Jakim insists it will not compromise on halal issues following discovery of boar bristle brushes

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) insists that it will not compromise with any party that violates the conditions and standards of Malaysian Halal Certification, especially involving impure elements such as pork.

Its director-general, Datuk Sirajuddin Suhaimee, said this included the action of withdrawing the Malaysian Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM) of a coffee factory and biscuit factory in Melaka, which was carried out by the Malacca Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) following the discovery of brushes with boar bristles at the premises.

He said the companies involved have been instructed to immediately stop using the Malaysian halal logo, withdraw all affected products from the market and implement comprehensive corrective and improvement actions including processes in accordance with Islamic law and established guidelines.

“This department fully respects the jurisdiction of state religious authorities, which are responsible for the management of halal certification as well as the implementation of monitoring and enforcement against SPHM holders at the state level,” he said in a statement here today.

He said no compromise or privilege would be given to any party that violated the conditions and standards of Malaysian Halal Certification.

“Any non-compliance, especially involving impure elements such as pork, is a serious violation that cannot be taken lightly and requires immediate and firm action,” he said.

In this regard, Sirajuddin said Jakim would continue to forge strategic collaboration with all authorities involved in strengthening monitoring and enforcement aspects.

He said concerted action would continue to be taken to ensure that the integrity of Malaysia’s Halal Certification was always maintained, the public’s benefit in obtaining halal food was guaranteed, and any non-compliance was dealt with firmly and immediately.
