adminBANDAR PERMAISURI: A fisherman died after the fibreglass boat he was on collided with another boat at the Kuala Sungai Mangkok estuary here this morning.
Victim Mohd Adli Zakaria, 53, died after being thrown to the back of the boat due to the accident and lost consciousness.
Setiu District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the incident occurred at 6.15 am when a boat driven by Tengku Anuar Tengku Mohamed, 55, collided with a boat driven by fisherman Anuar Che Karim, 60.
“Initial investigations found that the incident occurred when the victim and his friend from the Kampung Baru Penarik jetty went out to catch shrimp in the Setiu waters before their boat collided with a boat from the opposite direction,” he said in a statement today.
Mohd Zain said the accident caused the boat the victim was riding in to be damaged and the front part broke.
He said Tengku Anuar took the victim back to the jetty and he was confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.
The body was sent to the Setiu Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
