Slam reminisces three decades through The Grand Slam Unplugged 2

KUALA LUMPUR: On August 3, 1996, they created memories through The Grand Slam Unplugged concert at Stadium Merdeka, here, and two nights later, the group Slam is back to take fans on a journey through time through The Grand Slam Unplugged 2 at the Mega Star Arena here.

For most of the audience present, the concert on Saturday night was not just a musical performance, but rather a reminder of memories brought by songs that had accompanied their teenage years, love stories and various life memories.

As soon as the stage lights dimmed and the accompanying music from the National Symphony Orchestra (OSK) echoed, the audience’s cheers filled the hall, clearly depicting the excitement to highlight the era that saw the name Slam at the peak of popularity in the country’s music industry.

A total of 20 songs were performed through three segments, including Kembali Merindu , Tak Mungkin Berpaling , Nur Kasih and Kembali Terjalin, which received a warm reception with almost the entire audience singing along, as if no time had passed since the works were first performed.

Some were seen recording the performance using their mobile phones, while others chose to sing along while enjoying every moment presented on stage.

Despite the three-decade journey, one thing has clearly not changed, which is Zamani’s vocal strength.

Despite being over half a century old, this singer’s ability to deliver songs exactly as recorded on a cassette impresses fans.

Apart from Zamani, the group also consisted of Shah on guitar, Lili (bass), Man (drums) and Eddie (keyboards), each playing their own role in bringing the night’s performance to life.

The concert atmosphere was made even more exciting with the appearance of three legendary Malaysian guitarists, namely JoBranko, Kid Search and Aznan Alias as guest musicians who each shared the stage with Intanku Kesepian , Gadisku and Sentuhan Listrikmu .

The three big names who once colored the golden age of Malaysian rock music each came with their own playing style, but their combination managed to give a new dimension to the acoustic performance presented that night.

Every time the solo part arrived, their guitar “fried” received thunderous cheers from the audience who were clearly touched by the greatness of the three musicians.

Among the audience, fans from all ages were present, including those who grew up with Slam’s songs and the younger generation who knew the group through family and digital platforms, thus making the concert a platform that unites different generations through memories and appreciation for local works.

The nostalgic night ended in a very special way when Zamani invited the three legendary guitarists along with Slam guitarist Shah to perform their hit song Gerimis Mengundang .

Thousands of spectators singing every verse of the song’s lyrics together and the thunderous applause that accompanied the finale performance became a symbol of appreciation for the musical journey of a group that has been around for over three decades and is still going strong, with no sign of ending its run.
