PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli revealed that he and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad have been planning to find a new political platform for the past year through a kamikaze movement.
According to the Pandan MP, several new political parties were also registered as decoys to confuse certain parties so that their moves would not be detected sooner.
According to Rafizi, this strategy was carried out because they expected that any application to establish a new political party would not be approved.
At the same time, he said, they also researched and approached existing small parties before finally choosing to join Parti Bersama Malaysia as a platform for a new political struggle.
“We also know that registering a new party will not be approved. Some people ask, register a new party, but we already know that registering a new party will not be approved.
“In Malaysia, there are 73 political parties. People forget that. It’s like choosing on Shopee . So we started looking at the existing parties one by one and assessing their suitability and aspirations before holding further discussions,” he said during a speech at the New Political Direction Announcement Ceremony here, on Sunday.
Rafizi also expressed his appreciation to Tan Gin Theam, whom he described as one of the founders of the Parti Bersama Malaysia, for understanding their wishes and providing support for the effort.
He said that several series of meetings were held before both parties reached an agreement to move together on the political platform.
“Our intention is to offer a political platform to like-minded people, who believe that political power belongs to the people and not to politicians.
“The Penang-based Parti Bersama Malaysia was also actually established by ordinary people who are unknown on the national political stage.
“I did not form this party, Nik (Nazmi) did not form this party either. We are only joining a party founded by ordinary people in villages and towns,” he said.
He said the approach was in line with their goal of building a political movement that was closer to the people and did not rely solely on the dominance of political figures.
