KUALA LUMPUR: Former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin stressed that he returned to the party not with any demands, but rather with the determination to serve and contribute as best he could to strengthen the party.
Khairy, who is also a former Member of Parliament for Rembau, said he was ready to work with all levels of leadership and the grassroots to restore the people’s confidence in the party.
“Hopefully this decision will be a new starting point for us to move forward more united, mature and authoritative,” he said in a post on Facebook today.
His statement followed the decision of the UMNO Supreme Working Council (MKT) meeting last night which readmitted more than 6,000 members including several former senior party leaders, including former Vice President Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Khairy and former Foreign Minister Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
In 2023, UMNO sacked Khairy and its Supreme Council Member, Tan Sri Noh Omar, while several other leaders, including Hishammuddin, were suspended from membership for six years.
However, last March, Khairy expressed his intention to rejoin the party following President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement that he was “opening the door wide” to former members who had been sacked or suspended.
K hairy said he expressed his highest appreciation and gratitude to Ahmad Zahid for the wisdom and consideration given in accepting his application to be reinstated as a party member.
He also expressed his gratitude to all UMNO MKT members who had made the decision with wisdom and conviction regarding the future of the party’s struggle.
” I accept this decision with great humility and gratitude, and am aware of the great trust that comes with it.”
“The time outside the party has given me space to reflect and improve my weaknesses,” he said.
