KANGAR: Several State Assemblymen (ADUNs) have urged Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah to provide an immediate explanation regarding the postponement of the state assembly sitting which was scheduled to take place from April 21 to 23.
Sanglang assemblyman and former senior Perlis PAS leader Mohd Shukri Ramli said he, along with five other PAS elected representatives, received the postponement notification letter yesterday without any reasonable excuse.
“(The Chief Minister needs to) explain as soon as possible… he knows the reason why he postponed this (state assembly) sitting,” he said at a press conference at the Mata Ayer State Assembly Representative Service Centre near here today, which was also attended by five other PAS assemblymen.
The conference, scheduled to begin next week, is the first conference under Abu Bakar’s leadership after the Perlis Bersatu Chairman was sworn in as Menteri Besar on Dec 28 last year, following Mohd Shukri’s resignation due to health reasons.
Earlier, a letter informing the postponement of the hearing to a date to be determined then went viral on social media, causing various speculations.
Mohd Shukri also expressed regret for postponing his flight to the Holy Land to perform the Hajj pilgrimage on May 3 in order to attend the conference.
He said the postponement of the state assembly sitting without a solid reason had never happened in Perlis, except due to unforeseen factors such as natural disasters, the death of state or national dignitaries, and the spread of disease.
