Johor PRN: BN women want to achieve more than 26 percent female candidates – Noraini

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional (BN) women aim to maintain and even increase the number of female candidates in the upcoming Johor State Election (PRN), given that the state currently records the highest percentage of female elected representatives for the coalition.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, said that currently BN’s commitment to the women’s empowerment agenda has been proven in Johor when the target for representation of this group in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) has reached between 20 and 26 percent.

“Women candidates are a must, BN women really want them to be featured. This is because Johor is among the states with the highest number of BN women candidates so far, which is around (more than) 25 or 26 percent.

“We will try to reach our target because the 26 percent achievement so far is the highest we have ever achieved,” he said.

He said this to reporters after conducting a media tour of the Klang Valley Distribution Terminal (KVDT) in Puchong on Wednesday.

Commenting on the status of the incumbent of the existing state assembly seat from the wing, Noraini explained that the matter would be brought to the negotiating table with the party’s top leadership and the state government in the near future.

“For the female candidates who won previously (existing elected representatives), we will discuss the matter with the Menteri Besar (Johor) and also with the Party President (UMNO),” he added.

The Parit Sulong MP added that BN women are optimistic that the excellent performance shown by previous female elected representatives can serve as a solid foundation for the party leadership to continue to give them confidence in the Johor state election.

Last Monday, Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the Johor State Assembly to pave the way for the 16th general election within 60 days.
