PHNOM PENH, Oct 15 (Bernama-Xinhua) — Cambodia saw a significant 23 per cent rise in the export of bicycles and electric bicycles during the first nine months of 2026, driven by expanding international orders and deeper integration into regional supply chains, Xinhua reported.
Data provided by the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday showed that the Southeast Asian nation exported bicycles and electric bicycles worth US$552 million from January to September. This marks a substantial increase from the US$448 million recorded during the same period last year.
Ministry of Commerce’s Secretary of State and Spokesperson Penn Sovicheat said that the shipments were primarily destined for major Western markets, including the United States, European countries, Canada, and Australia.
“Bicycles and electric bicycles have grown into one of Cambodia’s major manufactured exports, joining garments, footwear, travel goods, and car tires,” he told Xinhua.
Cambodia University of Technology and Science’s China-ASEAN Studies Centre deputy director Thong Mengdavid attributed the surge to the country’s robust manufacturing momentum and a rising global demand for eco-friendly transit.
“Growth is boosted by improved access to regional supply chains and expanding orders from key markets,” he said, adding that bicycles continue to gain traction as a clean, green option for the environment.
