Rauf rejects Akmal Saleh’s resignation, remains as Melaka Exco

JASIN: Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed that he rejected the resignation of Datuk Dr Mohamad Akmal Saleh as the state Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Exco, which was announced last January.

He said the decision not to accept the resignation was made to ensure the continuity of Dr Muhamad Akmal, who is also the Head of UMNO Malaysia Youth, in the state government administration.

“He (Dr Muhamad Akmal) submitted his resignation letter immediately after he made the announcement.

“But I decided to reject the resignation so that he can continue his duties as a State Government Exco,” he said when asked to comment on the status of Dr Muhamad Akmal’s resignation.

He was previously met after visiting the Jus Dam in Jasin on Wednesday.

Commenting further, Ab Rauf said that the decision to accept or reject the Exco resignation lies in the hands of the Chief Minister.

Dr Muhamad Akmal, while delivering his speech at the adjournment of the UMNO Youth General Assembly at the Merdeka Hall, World Trade Centre (WTC) on January 15, announced his resignation as the Melaka Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Exco.

The action was taken after receiving pressure from several parties who were unhappy with his outspoken stance, including his insistence that the party consider its position in the Unity Government.

However, Ab Rauf Yusoh previously informed that the status of the resignation was still under consideration, with Akmal remaining in his duties pending further decisions.
