KUALA LUMPUR: PKR will never protect any leader or member who is found to be abusing power, said the party’s information chief, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said that Prime Minister and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had given a stern warning that no one, including ministers, would be protected if involved in abuse of power.
“Never take advantage of abuse of power, don’t take advantage or take anything… don’t let the party’s image be tarnished by going anywhere supposedly to ‘check the license’… when given a trust, don’t tarnish it.”
“This is a reminder to us… we once faced the FRU (Federal Reserve Force) to stop the abuse of power… let’s not allow the same thing to happen among us now,” he said.
Fahmi said this when speaking at the opening ceremony of the PKR Branch Annual General Meeting for the Federal Territories 2026 in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras here, on Friday.
At the same time, Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, also reminded leaders not to become too comfortable with their positions.
He said that sudden lifestyle changes without a reasonable explanation could create negative perceptions among the people.
Fahmi also called on all parties in PKR to reprimand each other prudently through the correct channels.
“We can have a diversity of views within the party, and the party has never prevented members from expressing their voices and views.”
“But as the country faces a global energy crisis and economic issues, we need to unite, put aside our differences of opinion and work together with the government to ensure that we can successfully navigate these trials and major challenges,” he said.
In another development, Fahmi said that the trial regarding the defamation suit against three individuals who claimed that he misused a place of worship, namely a mosque, for election campaign purposes and acted contrary to the orders and orders of the Sultan of Selangor will begin next Monday.
He said the case would be heard at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
“God willing, this Monday… I was informed that I will be the first witness,” he said, stressing that the legal action was taken to clear his name.
The suit was filed separately by Fahmi on Sept 5, 2023 against Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, known as Papagomo, independent speaker Ahmad Dusuki Abd Rani and the owner of the N13 Kuang Facebook account, Mohd Fauzan Madzlan, regarding allegations that the Lembah Pantai MP delivered a political talk at a mosque in Rawang, Selangor.
