KUALA LUMPUR: The difference in stance on Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s conditional pardon is not expected to affect the cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said both parties would continue to be professional in carrying out their responsibilities as members of the Unity Government.
He added that PH’s stance is based on the Constitution and the law, and is not driven by revenge or personal sentiments against Najib.
“I don’t see it being affected because we are being professional in this matter. It is a policy decision,” he said.
He said this in an interview with The Tiger Show Podcast broadcast on Astro AWANI today.
In the interview, Fahmi reiterated PH’s stance that those involved in high-profile corruption cases must serve the full sentence as a lesson to the people.
“Those involved in high-profile corruption cases must serve the full sentence to serve as a lesson to the people,” he added.
At the same time, he said PH respects the power of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim to make pardon decisions under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
Meanwhile, the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament also expects the Cabinet to continue to carry out its duties and responsibilities until the end of its term.
Najib was previously granted a conditional pardon to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028.
