BERSATU explains reasons for complaint against PN to RoS

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) explained that a complaint to the Malaysian Registration of Societies (RoS) regarding Perikatan Nasional (PN) was made due to allegations of violations of the coalition’s constitution by the new PN leadership.

Its Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said the written complaint was submitted on August 11, among other things regarding BERSATU not being included in the PN Supreme Council Meeting on July 16 as well as issues related to the party’s membership position in the coalition.

He said the act of denying BERSATU the right to attend, give opinions and vote in Supreme Council meetings was an offence and a violation of the PN Constitution.

“BERSATU has also submitted a complaint to the RoS regarding the existence of ‘veto power’ which influences decisions made by the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council.

“Individuals who are not office holders in the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council often issue statements that can be construed as threats and pressure to strip and/or drop BERSATU as a legitimate member party in the Perikatan Nasional Party.”

“This practice conflicts with the powers given to the Perikatan Nasional Presidential Council under Clause 7A.1(c) of the Perikatan Nasional Constitution,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Azmin said RoS had confirmed receiving BERSATU’s complaint and informed that an investigation was being conducted into the matters raised based on the Societies Act 1966 [Act 832], related regulations and the PN Constitution.

He added that he had appeared representing BERSATU to give a statement to RoS on August 18 at the RoS Headquarters, Putrajaya, regarding the complaint made.

In this regard, Azmin urged the top leadership and PN management not to underestimate the role of the RoS by making baseless accusations against the department to gain political sympathy and cover up what he claimed was the failure of the existing PN leadership.

He added that RoS had also repeatedly given written warnings to PN to ensure that the organisation carried out all activities in accordance with the Societies Act 1966 and the PN Constitution.
