ANKARA: Under the leadership of new CEO Elon Musk, Twitter dissolved its Trust and Security Council late Monday, Anadolu Agency cited media reports.
The body’s members were informed in an email that the council was no longer the “best structure” to bring external ideas into Twitter’s product development and work policy, the Washington Post reported.
The email was received shortly before councilors were scheduled to hold a video meeting with Twitter representatives to discuss the latest developments, the report said, citing a source familiar with the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity.
“We are grateful for your involvement, advice and cooperation over the past few years and wish you success in the future,” according to the email.
According to a council member who did not want to be named, the move was tantamount to throwing away “years of institutional memory that we have carried in the council” to the company.
Twitter formed an advisory group in 2016 to make the platform safer and address hate speech, child exploitation, suicide, self-harm and other problems.
It consists of about 100 members of independent civil, human rights, and other organizations.
Musk’s ownership of Twitter, now in its first month, has sparked widespread disarray at the company as he sought to turn the social media platform into a profitable entity through massive layoffs and introduced policies that were widely opposed internally.
