South Korean musician Dongyang Gozupa has a mission at RWMF 2022
KUCHING: For the first time setting foot in Bumi Kenyalang, a group of traditional musicians from South Korea, Dongyang Gozupa is on a mission to find like-minded friends at the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2022.
According to the group’s ‘percussion’ player, Jang Do Hyuk, apart from bringing Korean traditional tunes to the world stage, they are also very excited to learn about the experiences of other RMWF musicians.
“Honestly, after this festival we want to play on the beach. I understood RWMF is the largest music festival and market (in the region), so I was very excited to meet traditional artists and musicians from around the world.
“Because I also want to collaborate with other artists as our group does not have vocal singers and we only have three musical instruments so here is a good place to find collaboration,” he said.
He added, they are also looking forward to giving a fresh performance to all music lovers present at the festival.
Dongyang Gozupa which means high tone from Dongyang, will play their musical instruments at 4.00 pm on Saturday at the Legend Hall, Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).
“We perform lively and noisy music. So maybe the audience will be surprised to hear it but maybe they will enjoy the beat and rhythm that we sing as well as accept our music well, ”he added.
Meanwhile, for the Pinanak Sentah group from Siburan, Sarawak, this is their third experience of joining RWMF.
According to guitarist Akinson Dennis, face -to -face performances are undeniably the best way to convey their modern and traditional mix of music to reach the hearts of the listeners.
“So I feel very happy that this year RWMF is back physically and we hope it will bring exposure to our group to go even further.
“Besides that, I also miss meeting my artist friends who I haven’t seen for a long time and have fun together no matter when giving or watching the performance on the main stage later-that’s the most fun,” he said.
The RWMF 2022 event lasted for three days until Sunday featuring over 60 artists for concerts every night and various workshops conducted by the artists in the afternoon session at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
