Siti Nurhaliza claims her spot on the New York Times Square Digital Billboard

Pop star is a representative of Malaysian singers in the Equal campaign by Spotify

BEFITTING her status as Malaysia’s number one singer, Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza recently graced the world-famous New York Times Square Digital Billboard.

Siti’s appearance on the digital billboard came about as a representative of Malaysian singers in the Equal campaign by the digital music streaming platform, Spotify.

Equal is a global programme by Spotify in nurturing equity for highlighting female artists around the world.

There are 35 local Equal playlists covering artists from over 50 countries. Siti Nurhaliza is one of the representatives from Equal Malaysia and Singapore’s playlists. There is also the “best” Equal Global Playlist that contains music of equal artists from around the world.

Siti was excited upon hearing the great news. “After so many milestones in the music industry, this is probably one of the sweetest for me. Alhamdulillah, I am truly thankful for this honour.

“To have my face decked out at one of the most popular venues in the world is truly a dream come true. I am also glad to be given this opportunity like many other talented Malaysian female singers before me.

“I sincerely hope I will be able to continue to fulfil the wishes of my fans and followers by making more great music. I also hope that this will inspire other young girls out there to never stop believing and continue to chase their dreams.

“I mean, who would have thought that a girl from a small town like me would one day achieve several victories locally and internationally? But if you work hard nothing is impossible,” said Siti.

Siti Nurhaliza is no stranger to Malaysians. She is also renowned in neighbouring Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and various parts of the world. The Kuala Lipis native stole the attention of her countrymen when she first entered the local music scene in 1995.

Since then, her amazing voice and showmanship continued to create ripples in the entertainment scene slowly elevating her to become Malaysia’s number one singer.

With more than 20 albums to her credit, hundreds of local and international awards, and dozens of mega concerts, including her unforgettable stint at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Siti is trulydeserving of the recognition.

Siti, who is now a loving wife and mother of two, continues to solidify her presence with countless professional and charitable projects around the region.

Siti becomes the fifth Malaysian star to grace the Times Square billboard after Yuna, Layla Sania, local girl group Dolla and Iman Troye.
