Ops Gegar: The entertainment center in Taman Ipoh was raided, more than 20 foreigners were arrested

IPOH: The Perak Immigration Department arrested more than 20 foreigners, including a local citizen in a raid at an entertainment center in Jalan Canning Estate, Taman Ipoh, near here early Wednesday morning.

Those detained are 10 Chinese women, 11 women (Vietnamese) and one woman (Thailand), five men (Bangladesh) and one man (Malaysia).

Perak Immigration Director, Hapdzan Husaini, said all those between the ages of 20 and 40 were arrested in the ‘Ops Gegar’ raid which was conducted at around 1.25am.

“During the operation, the immigration officer was faced with an anxious moment when entering the premises, namely that he was confronted by a Malaysian man who tried to prevent the entry of the officer by holding the entrance from the inside of the premises.

“However, the efficiency of the operational officers, has managed to control the situation and subsequently stopped all of them from escaping,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Hapdzan said they were being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which is not having valid travel documents

He added that those detained were also investigated under Section 15(1)(c) which is overstaying and Rule 39 (b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 which is violating the terms of the Visit Pass by working illegally.

“The Perak Immigration Department will constantly improve monitoring and operations by complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set.

“Thus, the public is called upon to channel information and report complaints so that appropriate action can be taken through the right channels,” he added.
