National Day: The patriotic spirit has not faded even though it has been 12 years since joining the parade

KUALA LUMPUR: After 12 years of participating in the National Day parade, former member of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Special Branch Mohd Yusof Omar is still faithfully attending the historic day celebration at Dataran Merdeka on August 31.

Mohd Yusof, 67, participated in the parade under two teams, Team F of the Special Branch of PDRM Hanya Yang Berani and Squad 69 of PDRM because of his patriotic spirit that always reminded him of the sacrifices of freedom fighters in the past to serve the country.

He said the National Day celebration is a moment that is looked forward to every year to see the excitement with the various parades and performances that have been arranged and every year it will feature something different based on the theme of the celebration.

“Pak cik has been marching for National Day for about 12 years, there are times when he joins the parade, there is a time when he is on stage as an invited guest for the parade,” he said .

He said his service with the PDRM in the special branch force for almost 40 years, contributed to the spirit of love of country and patriotism in him to continue marching on National Day for the sake of his beloved country.

“Every time the National Day celebration on August 31 is the most anticipated moment because the celebration every year is very lively with various interesting performances and events prepared,” he said.

According to him, this year he did not participate in the parade because he will be present as a special invitee to receive the Federal Service Medal (JPP) of PDRM at Dataran Merdeka next week.

He had previously received the JPP bestowed by His Majesty Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Yussuff Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullah in 1989.

“As Malaysians who love this country, uncle feels very happy because through the parade on this National Day, we can show togetherness as Malaysians who are united and can awaken the patriotic spirit of love for the country and peace.

“We can also meet our friends from other branches who also hold weapons such as ATM (Malaysian Armed Forces) and other PDRM branches,” he said.

He said this year’s National Day celebration was special because the parade and performance could be held after two years of the country fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and Malaysians could gather again to fuel the celebration of the historic day.

The theme of this year’s celebration is Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama and the main core of Keluarja Malaysia is inclusiveness, togetherness and gratitude.
