More than 50 Aidilfitri bazaar tents were blown away by the storm
KULIM: More than 50 Aidilfitri bazaar sales tents at Padang Serai here were destroyed after being hit by a storm this afternoon.
In the incident at 3.30 in the afternoon, a strong wind that came suddenly caused many tents of various sizes to rise before overturning.
The incident also damaged the goods sold by traders in addition to several vehicles parked in the area.
A trader who wants to be known as Faridah, in her 30s, said the incident happened quickly and she managed to take shelter under her friend’s tent.
“I trembled when I saw the tent being lifted up in front of my eyes and thrown on top of some vehicles that were there.
“All the sales items that were brought in this morning such as clothing and Hari Raya equipment are scattered and wet,” she said when contacted here today.
On March 23, a trader in Jalan Kubang Lembu, in Alor Setar, also suffered a loss after his fruit stall tent was blown away by a storm.
In the incident at 3.15 pm, all employees and customers in the stall managed to save themselves.
