adminMELAKA: The mystery of the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was answered when Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the Melaka State Legislative Assembly would be officially dissolved tomorrow.
The announcement thus ends the question mark regarding the date of the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly, which has been the focus of attention for the past few weeks, thus paving the way for the State Election (PRN) process.
Ab Rauf said the dissolution, which took effect on September 23, was made based on Clause (2) of Article 19 of the Melaka State Constitution.
“I have met with the Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam to inform him of the position of the Melaka State Assembly and subsequently request his consent to dissolve the Melaka State Assembly.
“I am pleased to inform you that Tun Mohd Ali has agreed for the Melaka State Assembly to be dissolved with effect from tomorrow, September 23, 2026,” he said in a press conference here, today.
With the dissolution of the state assembly, the Election Commission (EC) is expected to take further action including setting the date for the election writ, nomination of candidates and polling day in accordance with legal provisions.
For the record, the Melaka State Assembly has 28 seats with the current state government’s mandate ending on December 31 if it is not dissolved earlier.
