It is so sad , if it wants to demolish and build a new Shah Alam Stadium – Noh Omar

TANJUNG KARANG: The Shah Alam Stadium, which is an icon for the development of state sports, should not be demolished if it is well maintained by the state government, said Selangor UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

He said it would be unfortunate if the state government took the decision as the existing development should have continued even though it was led by different governments and parties.

Noh said as a child of Selangor, Stadium Shah Alam has sentimental value to himself and the people of the state.

“If it is to be demolished, I feel sad because the biggest and greatest stadium in the state of Selangor should be continued (not demolished) and maintenance needs to be done.

“It should be that after three terms in power, the stadium should be maintained and taken care of as we (the Barisan Nasional government) did before.

“It’s like a house, if left for 10 years to repair, it will have to collapse … it’s a pity if it wants to collapse and build a new one,” he told reporters during the Tanjung Karang Parliament’s Prime Sacrifice Program here today.

Noh, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said the question of whether the state government was carrying out maintenance work on the stadium built in 1994 needed to be answered by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Earlier, the media reported that Amirudin did not deny that there was a proposal to demolish the Shah Alam Stadium and that his party would explain in detail about the stadium’s latest development proposal on July 16.
