KUALA LUMPUR: Artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, ChatGPT is about to revolutionize the data center industry, says an expert.
GDS Services Ltd Senior Vice President for international business Jimmy Yu said the main difference between the current cloud computing design and ChatGPT, as well as artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC) is the data center design.
“It opens up opportunities for countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, in the region, to have a larger scale of resources in terms of land, utilities and renewable energy.
“It’s not just a matter of location. For greater use of AIGC, any company only needs scalable resources and a simple internet connection,” he said at a panel session titled “The Future of Green Data Centers” at Huawei’s Asia Pacific Partner Conference 2023 in Shenzen, China, today.
The two-day hybrid conference will end tomorrow (May 18).
“With AI machine learning, computing will continue. You just have to make sure it works.
“We have built data centers for cloud service providers and we may have to think of the latest methods of how we should do it for new sectors, especially AIGC,” Yu said.
He also said GDS Services, a leading developer and operator of high-performance data centers in China, has seen many hyperscale data center sectors move into new sectors such as AIGC.
“When the industry really grows and with more usage, we will see a bigger growth point for our industry,” Yu added.
