Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center presents music book collection at Frankfurt Book Fair 2022

The collection includes biographies of pioneering singers in the United Arab Emirates

FRANKFURT , Germany , Oct. 23, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center (ALC), part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), as part of its participation in the 2022 Frankfurt Book Fair, has a Series of music books presented.

The series includes two books from the ALC initiative Pioneers Among Us, written by poet and writer Ibrahim Al-Hashemi, the first of which documents the life of singer, composer and poet Eid Al-Faraj, while the second Ibrahim Jumaa , a Pioneer of music and composition in the United Arab Emirates, illuminated.

The collection includes the book by Dr. Hamad bin Sarai Wahhabi Art: Kinetic and Verbal Performance from Emirati Folklore ; the Encyclopedia of Sung Poems by Dr. Hammad Al Khatri , an encyclopedia containing a compilation of poems sung in the United Arab Emirates in the authentic Emirati vernacular and Folk Songs for Children and Women in the United Arab Emirates by Dr. Fatima Al Mazrouei , striving to fill the lack of documentation of traditional folk songs.

The book by Dr. Ahmed Youssef Ali’s Umm Kulthum: Poetry and Singing , on the other hand, chronicles the legendary singer’s efforts to give greater prominence to Arabic song by performing the works of the greatest Arabic poets, during Rhythms of Light: A Musical Biography of Four of the Geniuses of Oriental Melody by composer and researcher Hassan Zaki Shehata highlights four composers: Ahmed Sedqi, Abdel Azim Abdel Haq , Mahmoud Al Sharif and Ali Ismail .

The collection presents two books by the composer and musicologist Muhammad Saeed Hegab. One focuses on the history of the flute and its importance in different cultures, while the second explores the “world of bowed instruments”.

In Iraqi Musical Heritage and Civilizational Communication , Dr. Muhammad Hussein Kamer , Professor of Science and Music Theory and an expert on Al-Gouza and Iraqi Maqam instruments, the traditional Iraqi music. Music scholar Bassam Abdel-Sattar’s book The Qanun Instrument sheds light on the role of the qanun instrument in the traditional school of music.

The collection includes The Medium in the Rules and Theories of Arabic Music by Ahmed Youssef Al-Taweel , Professor and Vice Dean of the Higher Institute of Arabic Music at the Academy of Arts, and The History of Music in Arabia and Andalusia by Julian Ribera (translated by Hussein Hassan ) on the role of Andalusian Muslims in preserving the music whose legacy inspired many European musicians.
