KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) — Singer Nourul Wahab Depp fulfilled a long-held dream of staging her first solo showcase through For You Nourul Concert at Zepp Kuala Lumpur last night, more than three decades after beginning her music career.
The nearly three-hour concert not only celebrated the 49-year-old singer’s musical journey, but also gave her an opportunity to share the experiences, challenges and milestones that shaped her career in the local music industry.
The atmosphere was set from the start with a choir performing several of Nourul’s popular songs, including Tika Cinta, Keliru, Cinta Azali, Kerana Terluka and Aku Cinta Aku Rindu, evoking nostalgia among fans who have followed her since the 1990s.
Nourul opened her set with Rindu and Impianku to thunderous applause, while her powerful vocals and steady delivery demonstrated why she remains a respected figure in the local music scene.
Among the highlights was a medley of Janji Manismu, Kau Kunci Cintaku, Madah Berhelah and Sembilu, which took the audience on a journey back to the golden era of Malaysian pop music.
Nourul was visibly moved several times during the concert as she expressed gratitude for finally realising her dream of holding a solo concert after 32 years in the entertainment industry.
“Thank you to everyone who came tonight. I’ve held on to this dream for more than 30 years. Better late than never,” she said to loud applause from the audience.
The emotional moment was further enhanced by the appearance of her son, Zachary Raphael Depp, whose antics on stage amused concertgoers.
The concert also reunited Nourul with fans who travelled from various locations, including Singapore and Brunei, reflecting the enduring support for the singer, who was named Best New Artiste at the 1996 Anugerah Industri Muzik entertainment awards show.
Her close rapport with fans was evident when she stepped off the stage to greet audience members and fellow artistes in attendance. However, the loudest cheers of the night erupted when Ning Baizura appeared as a guest artiste before the two close friends captivated the crowd with a duet of Selagi Ada Cinta.
The concert’s energy continued to build when Mimi Fly joined Nourul on stage for renditions of Persamaan, Maafkanku and Keliru, drawing a standing ovation from the audience.
Beyond performing her popular hits, Nourul also showcased her versatility with the French-language song Aujourd’hui before paying tribute to her idol, Celine Dion, with a rendition of That’s The Way It Is.
In her solo segment, she appeared elegant in a gold-coloured outfit while performing Ikhlasnya Cintaku, Tangis Syukur, Tertutup Hati, Rinduku Padamu and Aku Cinta Aku Rindu, which became among the highlights of the evening as nearly the entire hall sang along.
Nourul also shared the story behind Rinduku Padamu, which was composed entirely by her former husband Ajai, describing the song, released in 1996, as having significant sentimental value in her artistic journey.
Despite performing for nearly three hours without a break, Nourul remained energetic, delivering consistent vocals from start to finish.
She later introduced her latest single, Andai Ku Kenaliku, composed by Yasin Sulaiman and Eena Houzyama, before closing the concert with Kerana Terluka, with the audience singing along.
The concert marked a significant milestone in Nourul’s career, celebrating not only her musical achievements but also the enduring bond she has built with fans over more than three decades.
