KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has expressed disappointment with the party’s former deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who was allegedly trying to protect individuals involved in the ‘corporate mafia’ issue.
Ramanan, who is also the Human Resources Minister, said Rafizi often blames government agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as well as raising the issue of money laundering without a clear basis.
“What is his (Rafizi’s) intention that it seems as if he is protecting the individual. In this situation, he seems to be defending a certain individual, and is even willing to criticize the party in order to save the party in question. What is his real agenda?” he said at a special press conference at the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Service Centre, here today.
In this regard, Ramanan challenged any party, including Rafizi, to name him if they wanted to be linked to the issue, while stressing that he would not hesitate to take legal action.
Regarding the need for an internal investigation by PKR, the Sungai Buloh MP said that so far there is no solid evidence linking any of the party’s MPs to the allegations.
“Rafizi seems to have concluded that this matter really happened even though no names were mentioned and the facts have not been detailed. This creates the perception that there is an unhealthy agenda to divide the party,” he said.
Ramanan said that although he was not the individual linked to the issue, he needed to come forward to clarify the situation.
“Rafizi is a former Deputy President and a failed former minister. When he issues a statement and no rebuttal is given, it can create the impression that the allegations are true.”
“In this regard, someone needs to come forward to provide an explanation. We cannot allow this matter to drag on and raise suspicion,” he said.
Asked whether Rafizi acted alone in the issue, Ramanan refused to speculate.
“There is too much speculation at the moment. I don’t want to act like him by spreading rumors that could create a false narrative. This matter requires facts, and the truth must be revealed based on evidence,” he said.
