Yasin files the fourth representation to the Attorney General’s Department
KUALA LUMPUR: Nasyid singer and composer, Muhammad Yasin Sulaiman is about to file a fourth representation to the Attorney General’s Department to review the three drug case charges he is facing.
According to defense counsel, Ariff Azami Hussein, the defense team had no intention of delaying the proceedings by filing a representation but it was on the instructions of his client after a third representation for the same purpose was rejected two days ago.
Even Ariff Azami is confident that the charges against Muhammad Yasin can be tried without going through a trial.
He explained further that there was no objection so that the hearing for Wednesday and Thursday was set aside while the fourth representation was entered and considered.
He said this when the case was mentioned before the Section Court Judge, Nik Nasimah Nik Mohammad, on Wednesday.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Mohd Asnawi Abu Hanipah, confirmed that he did not object to the application and the Judge then fixed May 31, June 1 and 2 for the case hearing.
Muhammad Yasin was charged in accordance with Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 and can be punished in accordance with Section 15 (1) of the same act which carries a fine of not more than RM5,000 or a maximum imprisonment of two years if convicted.
Muhammad Yasin was also charged with possession of cannabis-type drugs weighing 193.7 grams and planting 17 plants in plastic pots filled with soil and from which cannabis, at his residence in Persiaran Surian, Damansara Indah Resort Home, PJU 3, Kota Damansara.
