RCI Tabung Haji: MACC must immediately arrest senior UMNO leaders, TH is more important than PAU – AMK

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) must act immediately and professionally without being influenced by any political party to arrest senior UMNO leaders to assist in investigations into the Tabung Haji (TH) issue, without having to wait for the UMNO General Assembly (PAU) to conclude this Saturday.

Youth Justice Party (AMK) Exco, Dzul Hilmi Zainol said there was no reason to wait for the PAU to be completed if there was evidence and a need for someone to be arrested or questioned to assist in the investigation into the Tabung Haji issue.

“It doesn’t matter if he is a senior UMNO leader, an individual involved in the management of PAU or anyone else.

“The law must be viewed equally. PAU is a matter for a political party, but Tabung Haji involves the interests and financial trust of Malaysian Muslims,” he said in a statement today.

A news portal previously reported that another senior UMNO leader was understood to be called by the MACC next week to assist in the investigation into the Tabung Haji issue.

Quoting the portal’s source, the leader involved, who holds an important position in UMNO, has been given time to resolve PAU matters which will start from Wednesday until Saturday and is believed to be investigated regarding his involvement in issues related to Tabung Haji.

Therefore, Dzul Hilmi said, MACC must do their job without considering whether PAU is ongoing or not if the procedure is indeed necessary to assist the investigation.

He explained that any delay could create a perception that political leaders are being treated differently.

He added that the people do not want to hear about the developments in PAU but need to know what is really happening in the Tabung Haji issue, as well as wanting the authorities to investigate transparently and bring to justice those who are embezzling the people’s money.

“Ultimately, what we want is justice. If someone is innocent, let the investigation prove it. But if there is evidence that says he is guilty and there was malpractice, then action must be taken as firmly as possible.

“Don’t let the legal process be seen as something that can be postponed because he is a political leader,” he stressed.

At the same time, he said, no one is above the law of the land and no political party should be considered more important than the trust and confidence that the people have given them over the years.
