‘Prison is God’s greatest gift to me’ – Ahmad Dhani
Ahmad Dhani described the experience of life in prison as the most expensive ‘gift’ that Allah SWT has ever given him.
Dhani, 50, was jailed for 18 months at the Cipinang Prison in East Jakarta for spreading hatred on the Twitter platform in January 2018 and was released in December 2019.
When met by the Malaysian media for the first time after his release and the COVID-19 pandemic hit the world, the founder of the band Dewa 19 shared the story of his life while in prison and now active in the music scene.
Philosophically, Mulan Jameela’s husband said he never regretted or felt ashamed when he was detained in prison, while the reason for his arrest was not because of a crime.
Thus, not seeing it as a form of life sentence or test, Dhani described it as God’s greatest gift to him.
“I did not say (imprisonment) as a punishment or a test. But I see this is God’s greatest gift to me because I believe He knows me very well, “he said.
Dhani added: “I also can’t tell you how the experience and feeling of sitting in prison because only those who have been there understand how it feels.”
For Dhani, everything that happens is taken with open arms and he is happy to be at the point of life now. What’s more, he just celebrated his 50th birthday on May 26.
“In my opinion, my life is complete. Enter the age of 50, if possible, let me live another 50 years, ”he joked.
The singer of the song “Hadapi Dengan Senyuman” came to the capital to fulfill an invitation to perform at the Garden of Eid Festival which took place last weekend.
Dhani admitted that he was excited because he was given the opportunity to perform without being accompanied by instruments such as guitars and drums, which inspired him to produce works without the help of ‘musical sounds’ in the future.
“Although I was confused, the performance at the Garden of Eid inspired me to produce works without instruments such as guitars,” he admitted, who presented several songs including “Kuldesak” and “Satu”.
Meanwhile, in the same meeting, Dhani also announced that fans or Baladewa will be able to see their performance in Malaysia through the Anniversary Tour 30 Years of Dewa 19 or the 30th Anniversary Concert of Dewa 19 scheduled for next September.
