PM Anwar urges DAP to postpone decision, prioritize Negeri Sembilan election

PORT DICKSON: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged that the political crisis involving DAP Melaka be resolved through negotiations to ensure the party’s focus is not affected ahead of the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN).

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said he had contacted DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke as well as the Melaka DAP leadership and the Melaka Chief Minister so that any action related to the dispute would be temporarily postponed.

He stressed that differences of opinion among leaders are normal, but they should not affect the development agenda and economic growth.

“I spoke to (Transport Minister) Anthony Loke earlier, with DAP and the Chief Minister, if he could negotiate first to postpone the state issue for a while until the election.

“It’s good, even if we disagree on two or three things, it doesn’t matter now that there are many things we disagree on.”

“But in terms of policy for economic growth and our people to continue, so I hope he (DAP) considers it so that our work is not disrupted,” he said.

Astro AWANI reported today that PH Melaka is no longer part of the Melaka State Government administration after the coalition decided to withdraw support following the approval of the Melaka State Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026.

The decision saw PH representatives, including four DAP state assemblymen (ADUNs) and an Amanah representative, relinquish all positions in the state government, including the positions of Exco, Deputy Exco, Deputy Speaker and appointments related to state administration.

Melaka DAP chairman Khoo Poay Tiong said PH cannot continue to be in government after rejecting the motion brought by the state administration because it contradicts the political principles held by the party.
