Perlis, Tashkent Eye Stronger Cooperation In Tourism And Agriculture

KANGAR, Oct 10 (Bernama) — Perlis and Uzbekistan’s Tashkent Region have the potential to cooperate in tourism and agriculture by sharing expertise and tapping into each other’s attractions and economic resources.

In a statement today, Istana Arau said Tashkent Region Governor Zoyir Mirzayev sees the strong ties with the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, and the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, as an important foundation for deepening cooperation between both sides.

Istana Arau said both sides have begun exploring the potential of kenaf cultivation in the agricultural sector, including the possibility of expanding the project further in Tashkent.

“This reflects positive progress in earlier discussions to identify agricultural areas with potential for development through strategic cooperation.

“Both sides also discussed strengthening tourism by drawing on each other’s attractions, experience and strengths to create more cooperation opportunities between Perlis and the Tashkent Region,” the statement read.

Zoyir Mirzayev shared this at a dinner hosted in honour of the Raja Muda of Perlis and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, at the world-class Amirsoy Mountain Resort, located about 80 kilometres from central Tashkent, before Their Royal Highnesses departed for home on Thursday.

The regional governor hosted the royal couple at the same villa previously visited by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

Istana Arau said the meeting reflected both sides’ commitment to strengthening existing ties while exploring new opportunities capable of spurring tourism and agricultural development and broadening relations between Perlis and Uzbekistan.

Zoyir Mirzayev undertook a working visit to Perlis in April last year for an audience with Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, accompanied by the Raja Muda of Perlis, at Istana Arau.

He also visited Universiti Malaysia Perlis and took part in MAIP’s Peduli Charity Ride programme in the Kampung Nelayan Warni Seberang Ramai Royal Transformation Project in Kuala Perlis.

“Following that visit, Zoyir Mirzayev, who was accompanied by Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Karomiddin Gadoev, officially selected Perlis as the Tashkent Region’s main collaboration partner in Malaysia,” the palace said.
