adminKOZHIKODE: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has slammed the actions of the opposition, especially PAS, which is accused of trying to nod in troubled waters regarding the Pardon Board decision involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Rejecting allegations of interference or ‘unseen hands’, Anwar stressed that the role played by the Prime Minister in the Pardon Board meeting was entirely subject to the law and the Attorney General’s official guidance.
“This PAS is actually nodding in the murky waters of its own interests. It should understand the rules properly, because people, the Prime Minister, anyone should have a voice in giving opinions based on the law, based on advice from the Attorney General and the rules. That’s what I did.
“But we also know that this is about responsibility in the Amnesty Board meeting and of course we have to take into account all factors. We still have many cases that we take on regarding corruption and it’s quite fast… I myself have emphasized to be more strict regarding Tabung Haji and FELDA.
“So let’s not take personal matters one by one,” he stressed at the closing press conference in Keralam, this evening.
Commenting on PAS’s claims, which he described as unprincipled, Anwar satirized the party’s attitude, which had previously taken the most outspoken stance against corruption issues, but was now taking the opposite stance for narrow political interests.
“I don’t really care about this PAS issue, it has never been consistent. They used to be the toughest. For me, I won’t comment on this issue, but as we know, there are still ongoing cases and the case has attracted the world’s attention,” he said.
The Prime Minister concluded a four-day working visit to India (11 to 14 September 2026) which included New Delhi and Keralam with Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Minister of Human Resources Datuk Seri R Ramanan.
He is scheduled to continue a series of official visits across the Indian Ocean to Malé, Republic of Maldives for two days starting this evening.
