Melaka PRN: Tok Ajak confident of defending Telok Mas seat

TELOK MAS: The family ties established with local residents over the five years he has served have become a pillar of support for the incumbent Telok Mas State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat, Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, to defend the seat in the 16th Melaka State Election (PRN).

Better known by the title Tok Ajak, Abdul Razak said his relationship with the community in the area was not limited to the relationship between elected representatives and voters, but rather was built through friendship and a friendly approach that was practiced throughout his term of service.

According to him, the relationship continues through various activities with residents, including casual meetings and community programs, without only focusing on the election season.

“My relationship with the Telok Mas DUN community is not because of the people’s representatives with the voters, rather we practice a relationship of friendship and family. This is my extended family because we are one family and are very close.”

“This campaign is not just about reaching out to voters, but how we fulfill our responsibilities as elected representatives. I have been campaigning here for five years through various programs, reaching out to all levels of society from young children to adults,” he said.

He said this when met after holding an afternoon tea program with residents at Warong Ima Dikobor Cina, on Saturday.

Commenting on the title of Tok Ajak, Abdul Razak, who is also the Melaka Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Exco, said the nickname was given by local residents due to his close relationship with the community across various age groups, especially the young.

Meanwhile, he said almost all of the 10 things contained in ‘Razak’s 10 Promises’ offered during the 2021 general election had been implemented, in addition to hinting that several new offers would be announced in the second week of the campaign.

“In 2021, when I offered myself as a candidate here, I presented 10 Razak Promises and thank God all 10 things have been implemented.

“We will continue with the good things and God willing, there will be good things announced in the second week, specifically for the people and residents of the Telok Mas state constituency,” he said.

In this election, the N.23 Telok Mas seat saw a three-cornered contest involving Abdul Razak representing Barisan Nasional (BN), Captain (Retd) Mohamad Jaafar from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Muhammad Hazwan Mustafa from the United Malaysia Party (Bersama).

In the 2021 Melaka state election, Abdul Razak won the seat by obtaining 6,052 votes in a four-cornered contest, defeating Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate, Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen.

Early voting day is set for November 10, while regular voting takes place on November 14.
