adminHollywood star Mark Wahlberg has captured the attention of many after a video showing the actor filming a film in George Town, Penang went viral on social media.
In the video, Wahlberg is seen acting out a scene in a silver Perodua Kelisa before exiting the vehicle while filming took place on Lebuh Melayu.
The presence of the 55-year-old actor has drawn the excitement of netizens, especially when they see him riding in an iconic locally-made compact car.
“Mark Wahlberg is currently filming the movie Mummy’s Daughter is Back near Penang,” joked one social media user, while another added, ” Sheesh , really interested in him. Go ahead, Kelisa . ”
Fans’ attention was also drawn to a post on social media by a local businessman that showed the relaxed side of the Transformers actor entertaining the local community during a break from filming.
“Mark Wahlberg even came to hang out at our muruku shop, when else?” wrote the owner of the Penang Famous Muruku stall in the post.
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Penang City Council (MBPP), Datuk A. Rajendran, confirmed that the filming session is scheduled to take place in six different locations around the state including Lorong Kulit, Stadium Bandaraya, Stadium Batu Kawan and Padang Macallum.
Wahlberg is understood to be in Malaysia for two weeks to film the latest film released by the Netflix streaming platform titled “The Big Fix”.
The script reportedly tells the story of an Interpol officer who had connections with the International Football Federation (FIFA) before uncovering a match-fixing syndicate at a global level, sparking a high-risk investigation.
The Netflix production conducted principal photography in Sydney, Australia, while additional scenes were shot in several countries, including Malaysia.
Apart from Wahlberg, the thriller also features British Academy Award winner Riz Ahmed, Singaporean actor Chin Han and Malaysian-born actress based in the United States, Nuha Jes Izman.
