adminPETALING JAYA: Thousands of early 2000s music fans flooded the Idea Live Arena here on Saturday night to watch the Peterpan – Semua Tentang Kita concert , thus curing their longing for the ever-fresh songs of legendary Indonesian band, Peterpan.
The concert featured original members of Peterpan, namely Ilsyah Ryan Reza (drummer), Andika Naliputra (piano player), Hendra Suhendra (bass player) and Loekman Hakim (guitar player), who revived nostalgia through a series of songs that were once popular.
Even without the presence of its original vocalist, Ariel, the performance, which was performed with several guest singers, was still warmly received, proving that Peterpan’s work still has a special place among fans in Malaysia.
As early as the evening, fans began to fill the arena grounds and were willing to queue for hours to get the best spot to watch the performance of the group that had created a phenomenon in the region.
The concert began promptly at 8.20pm with the appearance of Marcello Tahitoe or Ello who opened the stage with the songs Taman Langit and Khayalan Tingkat Tinggi before greeting the fans who were incessantly cheering.
“ What’s up Malaysia! Nice to see you again . I just came here last month (through the Dewa 19 concert) but Peterpan has been coming here for the past 18 years.
“Malaysia, scream! When I was first invited to this project, I thought, ‘These guys, they are legends!’ So, the songs still relate to us. Agree?” he said.
Apart from her energetic performance, Ello also stole the show when she entertained fans who asked her to tie her hair during the concert, thus creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere throughout the performance.
Also enlivening the concert are Indonesian singers Rony Parulian, Tantri Kotak and Arda Hatna, in addition to local singer Hael Husaini.
Hael, who sang the songs Jauh Mimpiku and Aku dan Bintang, admitted to feeling a little nervous when given the opportunity to share the stage with a group that has greatly influenced the regional music industry.
“This is not just a collaboration for me. I grew up with Peterpan songs and I’m sure many here also have memories with their songs,” he said.
Among the most meaningful moments of the night was when the iconic song Mimpi Yang Sempurna was sung almost entirely by thousands of spectators without the singer’s vocal accompaniment, reflecting the close connection fans have with Peterpan’s works that continues to this day.
Arda also shared his personal story when he revealed that the song Ku Katakan Dengan Indah has sentimental value because it is closely related to his love journey.
“This song left an impression on my heart because there was someone who broke my heart at that time but that person was also the one who healed my heart. The opportunity came and I finally married him,” he said, who sang the song in a duet with his wife Tantri.
Even more lively, the fans who attended, dressed in blue-themed clothing, did not miss the opportunity to sing along with the artists, and some even got lost in emotion through songs full of memories.
The concert lasting about two hours also featured Peterpan’s popular songs such as Ada Apa Denganmu , Menunggumu , Muyang Nanti , Bintang di Surga , Tak Bisakah and Semua Tentang Kita .
