adminKUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) has officially received notification regarding the dissolution of the 15th Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on September 23, 2026.
EC Chairman, Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, in a statement today, announced that the notification was received from the Melaka State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Ibrahim Durum via a letter dated 22 September 2026.
“Based on Clause (4) of Article 19 of the Melaka State Constitution, a general election is required to be held within 60 days from the date of dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly.
“In this regard, a Special Meeting to discuss important dates for the 16th Melaka State General Election (GE) will be held on a date to be announced later,” the statement explained.
The Melaka State Legislative Assembly will be dissolved effective Wednesday, to pave the way for the 16th State Election (PRN).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced the matter at a press conference in Seri Negeri on Tuesday.
He said the decision was made after receiving the approval of the Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.
